Members of our staff include PhD's, DDS's and MD's, and are certified by the American Board of Oral Pathologists, American Board of Medical Microbiology, the American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology and the National Registry of Clinical Chemistry. Clients have ready access to pathologists with expertise in immunopathology, dermatopathology and oral pathology for consultation.
Thomas C. Shanahan PhD, MS, ABMLI : Senior Vice President of Laboratory Services
Dr. Shanahan received his doctorate from the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA and subsequently trained as a postdoctoral fellow in Clinical Immunology at the Royal Victoria Hospital/McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Medical Laboratory Immunology and past accreditation commissioner and co-chair for the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics. Dr. Shanahan currently serves on the New York State Transplant Council for the New York State Department of Health. Previous appointments include Director of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics at the Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo General Hospital, and Strong Memorial Hospital, and faculty appointments in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine and Department of Pathology at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Alfredo Aguirre, DDS, MS: Director- Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology
Dr. Aguirre is a Professor and Director of the Advanced Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology training program in the Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Aguirre has published more than 70 peer reviewed scientific articles in prestigious international journals. He has also written chapters on Oral Pathology for two different contemporary textbooks in periodontics.

James C. Adrian DDS, MS : Member of Science Council / Oral Pathologist
Dr. Adrian is an Emeritus Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology in the Department of Oral Diagnostic Sciences at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a Diplomat of American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and was the Past President of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Adrian has served in the U.S. military for 22 years and retired as a Colonel in 1981. During his distinguished career in the U.S. military he served as the Chairman of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and the US Army Institute of Dental Research. After service in the army Dr. Adrian was on the faculty of Howard University College of Dentistry, Washington D.C. from 1981-2004. During this period he started and managed an active independent Oral Diagnostic Pathology service.
Dr. Mirdza Neiders : Assistant Director-Diagnostic Immunology
Dr. Neiders is a Distinguished Teaching Professor at The State University of New York at Buffalo and a faculty member of the Oral Diagnostic Science Department of the School of Dental Medicine. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Neiders received her dental training at University of Michigan and her post-graduate training in pathology at University of Chicago Medical School and Zoller Dental Clinic. She completed her training in periodontology at The State University of New York at Buffalo.
Dr. Neiders currently serves as a Table Clinic Judge for the American Dental Association and as a member of the Admissions Committee for The State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. Previously she served on the Grant Review Committee for NIH for 10 years, the International Association of Dental Research constitution Committee for 5 years, and as a reviewer for the Journal of Oral Pathology for 18 years. Dr. Neiders has published numerous articles and currently reviews articles for the Journal of Periodontology. She has been serving as an oral pathologist and diagnostic immunologist at Immco for 15 years.

Dr. Hemlata S. Bhakoo PhD, HCLD/ ELD : Assistant Director-Andrology
Dr. Bhakoo received her doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Following that, she trained as a post doctoral fellow at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in
Buffalo, New York. Dr Bhakoo established an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Laboratory at Children’s Hospital, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, in conjuction with University of Buffalo in 1987. Subsequently, she established another IVF laboratory for a private Infertility clinic in 1999 where she continues to serve as a director of the Andrology laboratory & Tissue Bank licensed by New York State Department of Health. She is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB). Dr Bhakoo is a Faculty member (volunteer) in the Department of Biotechnical & Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

Lakshmanan Suresh DDS, MS : Vice President of R&D / Clinical Lab Services, Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Oral Diagnostic Science
Dr. Suresh is a Diplomat of American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. He graduated from the School of Dental Medicine, Chennai, India. He did his post-graduate training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, London, United Kingdom which culminated in a Fellowship from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow, U.K. in 1997. He received a Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology in 2003. He also received Advanced Certification of the same and Masters Degree in Oral Sciences from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has received various NIH training grants and also authored numerous publications in peer reviewed medical journals. He joined Immco Diagnostics, Inc. in 2006.

Jill M. Kramer, DDS, PhD
Dr. Kramer completed a dual D.D.S./Ph.D. degree program at the University at Buffalo (UB) School of Dental Medicine in 2007. She then pursued specialty training in oral and maxillofacial pathology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY. Dr. Kramer is a fellow in the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and a diplomate in the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. She is currently an assistant professor at the UB School of Dental Medicine, where she maintains appointments in the departments of oral biology and oral diagnostic sciences. She directs an active research program focused on the study of autoimmune diseases with oral manifestations. Dr. Kramer serves as an ad hoc reviewer for several journals, including the Journal of Oral Pathology and Medicine. She has authored numerous scientific publications, and is the recipient of several local and national awards. She joined Immco as an oral pathologist and diagnostic immunologist in 2014.
Muhlbauer Dermatopathology Laboratory
Jan E. Muhlbauer MD
Founder and President of the Muhlbauer Dermatopathology Laboratory (MDL). He graduated from Southwestern Medical School in 1976 and trained in Dermatology and Dermatopathology. After spending two years as Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Rochester, he started MDL in 1983 and now has 22 years of experience directing the laboratory.
James A. Seab, Jr., MD
Dr. Seab, Jr., MD joined MDL in 1990. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1969 and trained at Walter Reed and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP), Washington D.C. . He is certified in Pathology (1976) and Dermatopathology (1984). He served as Assistant Chairman of the Department of Dermatopathology at the AFIP. He has over 30 years of experience in Anatomic Pathology and 22 years of experience in Dermatopathology. He has been Assistant Director of Dermatopathology at MDL Laboratory for the last 16 years.
Dennis L. May, MD
Dr. May has been with Muhlbauer Dermatopathology Laboratory since January of 1994. He graduated from the University Of Utah School Of Medicine in 1970 and trained in Dermatology at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. This was followed by a Fellowship in Dermatopathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. He is certified in Dermatology (1977) and Dermatopathology (1979). Dr. May spent 23 years in the military and served as Chairman of Dermatology at the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Denver, Colorado and also was on the teaching staff at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology for approximately 7 years. He has 28 years of experience in Clinical Dermatology and 26 years of experience in Dermatopathology.
Theresa T. Sherrod, MD
Dr. Sherrod joined MDL in 2006. She graduated from Cornell University Medical College (1979) and is Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (1986) as well as Dermatopathology (AFIP, 1989). She has had 16 years of academic and clinical experience in Dermatopathology at the Laboratory Corporation of America, American Medical Laboratories, and Quest Diagnostics, Inc. .
J. Michael Gagnier, MD
Dr. Gagnier joined MDL summer of 2006. He graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1975, and is Board Certified in Dermatopathology (AFIP, 1984) as well as Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (1979). He has 22 years of experience in Dermatopathology, and served as Assistant Chairman of the Department of Dermatopathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. He has since practiced Dermatopathology at the Laboratory Corporation of America, American Medical Laboratories, and Quest Diagnostics, Inc..
